Doug McGrath originally hails from western Kansas where
he began playing piano at the ripe old age of 13. Since moving to
California in 1991, he's performed in the orchestra pits at San Jose
State University Theater, Peninsula Youth Theater, and several South Bay
middle and high schools. Over the years, Doug has also
accompanied melodrama and vaudeville shows at the Gaslighter Theatre and
Big Lil's Cabaret. He was the principal accompanist for the
Silicon Valley Gay Men's Chorus for nine years and accompanied Opus Q,
the East Bay Men's Chorale, for two. Through his work with
SVGMC, he accompanied Francine Lancaster and Linda Tillery, and appeared
on stage with Joan van Ark, Nell Carter, and Bruce Vilanche.
Doug has continued to expand his musical skills through master classes
at Mission College where he had the privilege of performing for Olga
Kern, the 2001 Van Cliburn winner. He supports his musical endeavors by
masquerading as an engineer at Siemens and enjoys scuba diving, whale
watching, and stargazing. He recently took up the violin, a decision
that his neighbors--so far--have patiently and quietly endured. He can
be reached at music@goug.org.
Betty
D'Angelo (right) was the Singers' accompanist since
the group's inception in 1976 until her retirement in Spring 2002. We
will always remember Betty's great talent and dedication to the choir.
Shelly Catton accompanied the Singers for the 2002-2003 season.
